How do you write consulting resume bullets that actually sound strong?

  • Resume

My resume bullets are accurate but they still read like job descriptions. I keep writing things like 'supported analysis' or 'worked with stakeholders' and it feels weak. What is the best way to turn normal work experience into bullets that actually show consulting-style impact without exaggerating?

Start each bullet with the outcome or ownership, not the task. The recruiter should quickly see what changed because of your work.

How do you show transferable experience when you have never worked in consulting?

  • Resume

I am applying to MBB from industry and none of my job titles sound remotely like consulting. What should I emphasize so the recruiter sees transferable skills instead of just a totally unrelated background?

Focus on the work patterns consulting firms value: solving ambiguous problems, analyzing data, influencing stakeholders, leading teams, and producing measurable outcomes.

What are the most common MBB resume mistakes people miss?

  • Resume

I have revised my resume a bunch, but I am worried there are still obvious consulting-specific mistakes I am not seeing because I have stared at it too long. What are the most common things that make an MBB resume weaker than it should be?

The most common problems are usually not dramatic. They are things like vague bullets, weak action verbs, unclear impact, too much text, inconsistent formatting, and content that feels impressive only if someone already knows the context.

How do you quantify impact on a consulting resume when your work was not that measurable?

  • Resume

I keep hearing that every bullet should have numbers, but some of my work just does not have neat metrics attached to it. How do you handle that without forcing fake precision?

You do not need to invent numbers, but you should still try to show scope or significance wherever possible. That might be team size, project scale, stakeholder count, timeline, or the importance of the deliverable.

What is the ideal format for a consulting resume?

  • Resume

I am less worried about the content right now and more confused about format. One page seems obvious, but beyond that I am not sure what the cleanest consulting-style layout actually looks like.

Consulting resumes are usually valued for clarity and scannability more than creativity. A clean one-page format, strong section hierarchy, and concise bullet points are usually far more effective than fancy design choices.
