I am considering two offices at the same consulting firm and a consultant has offered to refer me. Can one referral support applications to both offices, or should I choose one office before asking them to submit anything?
A consultant said they are willing to refer me and asked me to send a few points they could use. How much should I write without basically drafting the referral for them or making the endorsement sound scripted?
Mayank G.CoachGive the referrer factual talking points, not a pre-written endorsement they are expected to copy.
A consultant volunteered on a pro bono project with my student organization and saw some of my work directly. We were not coworkers, but they know how I perform. Is it appropriate to ask about a referral?
Mayank G.CoachYes, that can be a credible basis for a referral if the consultant actually observed your work.
I know someone at an MBB firm who works in a corporate function rather than as a consultant. If they can submit a referral, does that carry any value, or are referrals only meaningful when they come from consulting staff?
Mayank G.CoachIt may still help, but the value of the referral depends on the firm's process and how well the person can credibly endorse you. Do not assume all employee referrals carry identical weight.
