If a sophomore program disappears or changes, the main consulting path is still open. Those programs were useful accelerators, not prerequisites for landing a junior-year internship or a full-time offer later.
Use the second year to build the things the main recruiting process will still evaluate: strong academics, credible experience, leadership, clear interest in consulting and a network that gives you real information about offices and timelines.
Do not over-optimize around one firm's special program. Recruiting formats change, and a student who spends the year improving their profile is in a better position than someone who only waits for the next branded event.
Focus on securing a substantive summer experience, learning basic case skills and understanding junior-year deadlines. That gives you a durable plan even if firms keep changing early-talent programs.
