In some practice cases the objective is obvious, but I have also seen prompts that are very broad. If my R1 case starts without a clear success metric or decision, should I stop and clarify immediately or start structuring from what I have?
When I get a dense chart, I sometimes need a little time to read the axes and work out the main message. In a first-round interview, is it okay to explicitly ask for 20 or 30 seconds to think before I start talking?
I have two first-round interviews back to back. If the first interviewer wants a very concise style and the second seems more conversational, should I actively adjust how I case between them?
Mayank G.CoachYes, adapt your communication to the interviewer while keeping your core problem-solving process consistent.
I am comfortable pausing before a case structure, but I feel pressure to answer behavioral questions immediately. Is it acceptable to take a few seconds to think before starting a fit answer, or does that make the response look rehearsed or uncertain?
Mayank G.CoachA short pause before a fit answer is completely reasonable. Two or three seconds to choose the right example is better than starting immediately and wandering into the wrong story.
