Use the metric that best answers the client's objective, and mention the other when it changes the interpretation.
Percentage growth shows relative momentum, while absolute change shows scale. Either one can be misleading on its own when segment sizes differ.
A niche segment growing 50% may add only $2 million, while a core segment growing 5% may add $20 million.
State both the relative and absolute effect when the difference is important, then explain which one should drive the decision.
