An interests line can be useful when the rest of the resume already proves your qualifications. It gives the reader something human and sometimes creates an easy conversation point in interviews.

The key is specificity. 'Travel, music, sports' is forgettable. 'Ran the Berlin Marathon, amateur espresso roasting, Arsenal supporter' is more distinctive and easier to discuss. Do not manufacture quirky interests just to look interesting.
