A credible answer starts by acknowledging that banking and tech are real alternatives, then explaining what specifically pulls you toward consulting. Do not rely on generic lines about prestige or 'working with smart people.'

You might value broader industry exposure, a faster rotation across problem types, more client interaction or the apprenticeship model. The reason becomes stronger when you connect it to something you have already experienced.

Also show that you understand the tradeoff. Consulting may offer variety, but banking can provide deeper finance exposure and tech can offer more ownership of one product or function.

Pick two or three reasons that are genuinely yours and support each one with evidence. The interviewer should hear a decision process, not a memorized comparison chart.

For me the tough part would be admitting what banking or tech does better, then explaining why consulting still wins.

A memorized "I like variety" answer would probably sound weak next to an actual project example.
