Build accuracy first, but introduce timing early enough that the clock is not a surprise. Waiting until you feel perfect untimed can create a separate pacing problem later.
Use mixed practice: some untimed work to fix the method and some short timed sets to train decisions under pressure. As accuracy stabilizes, increase the proportion of timed practice.
Speed usually improves from better setup and question selection, not just trying to calculate faster.
