Do not assume sponsorship can automatically be deferred. Timing, eligibility windows and school-application requirements can differ by firm and office, and policies may change before you reach that point.

The practical question is whether sponsorship approval is tied to a specific class year or remains available after another performance cycle. Your manager or talent team can explain the current policy when you are close to eligibility.

There are also career tradeoffs. Staying another year can give you stronger experience or promotion progress, but it may shift school timing and the period when the firm expects you to return.

Treat this as a planning question, not a promise embedded in the original offer. When eligibility becomes relevant, confirm the current rules in writing before making school or project commitments.

I would not build a two-year plan around deferral until the firm confirms the current policy.
