Your degree does not force you into a specialist track. Apply based on the work you want and the roles for which your background meets the stated requirements.
A technical master’s can strengthen a generalist application when you translate it into problem solving, quantitative analysis, and the ability to learn complex topics quickly. Specialist roles make more sense when you want the domain itself to remain central to your work.
Compare the actual job descriptions, staffing models, and advancement paths rather than assuming the title "specialist" is easier. Some specialist tracks require deeper domain experience than an academic degree alone provides.
Build a clear story for why your technical background leads to the type of consulting work you are targeting. The choice should be intentional, not a fallback based on the degree label.
